Not sticking it to the Man one day at a time

It appears that the nation’s biggest selling rock weekly has finally gone and sold out - the NME has rigged its end of the year album poll for commercial reasons. If I was the Arcade Fire I’d be really annoyed about now. Shame on you NME.

Living on the cutting edge of irony is in my blood, man!

Why Can’t Anyone Tell I’m Wearing This Business Suit Ironically?

“About five years ago, I was growing bored with the whole neo-’80s electroclash look that I had mastered years earlier. I figured, why not go all out and take the concept of ironic fashion to the extreme? Just do something so risky and completely out there that it would blow people’s minds. So I dreamed up the suit idea. It was like, just create the squarest possible look and run with it. And I was hardcore about it, too.”

Pipettes in T2 shocker

Whilst reading through the T2 on my way to the crossword I came across a full page article on everyone’s favourite poka dot rock girl band The Pipettes. If you happen to be passing a newsagents today I suggest you check it out - the photo on the site doesn’t do them justice.

32 Shining Pearly Whites

“Don’t worry about that my friend ‘cos everything’s going to grow again”

Listen to Lizbert’s Tooth (mp3, 2.3mb). I really like it and that was before I realised Ricky had written it.

“It’s possibly the best album ever made by someone from Stroud.”

It’s better to be loved by the righteous few than to be liked by a lukewarm many.

“British Sea Power are, without doubt, something of a national treasure, so ahead of their Ritz show, we asked guitarist Noble about their latest opus, Open Season, being inspired by ice shelves, and why they are playing as their own support on tour!”

“I can’t bring myself to sit at any table where flesh is served or eaten - unless, of course, it’s human flesh.”

Shall reviews the pain inducing Cribs / Maximo Park/ Kaiser Chiefs tripple header gig at Brixton Academy for Auntie, whilst over at the Londonist Ricky reviews the rather fetching Pipettes at London’s 100 Club. In other news Mark E. Smith (of the Fall) has been reading the football results on TV, sadly without his famous singing affectation ("Forfar-ah 4-aaaaaahhhhhh! - Fife 5-aaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrh") and Morrissey has answered 15 fans questions. Music based linkage a-go-go!

Jibba Jabba

Facts we didn’t know this time last week about Mr T:

“23. That’s the number of people Mr. T has pitied in the time it has taken you to read this sentence.”

“Mr. T is allergic to doorknobs. That’s why he can only kick through doors.”

“Despite popular belief, if there is a fool in the woods, and nobody is around to hear his jibba jabba, Mr. T is still able to pity him.”

“Mr.T does not grow a mohawk on purpose. It’s actually just his hair trying to give you the finger.”

“…so mind your step on the escalators - especially if you’re wearing your party shoes.”

Ken’s been at it again with a rather patronising leaflet entitled Tube Tips For Women. Quite frankly unbelievable. The leaflet has been withdrawn both IRL and on the t’internet, but its still readable from the Google cache.

C’etait un Rendezvous

I found this whilst surfing about but it surfaced on AskMe a few days back.

A director wants to film a cars point of view speeding around Paris but can’t get the necessary permits to close off all the roads. So instead he mounts a camera to the bonnet of a Ferrari 275 GTB and it sets off early in the morning sometime in August 1976 screaming from Porte Dauphine, through the Louvre, to the Basilica of Sacre Coeur - right through the heart of Paris.

35mb, 10mins, quicktime

At points the driver hits 140mph.

For some reason it reminds me of Burnout 3 and Grand Turismo.

Brain. Hurt.

To make your mind hurt, check out the Blue Ball Machine. I just don’t want to know how long this took to make.
