poor clients?
Joel Spolsky gives an excellent insight on possibly why Microsoft halted development on IE and why the only new versions of IE will be included with new releases of Windows. For once it’s not just the tired “they want you to upgrade", nope, this time it’s because they don’t want web applications getting anymore richer for Joe Public:
‘There’s no way Microsoft is going to allow DHTML to get any better than it already is: it’s just too dangerous to their core business, the rich client. The big meme at Microsoft these days is: “Microsoft is betting the company on the rich client."‘
Just spending the last couple of days using gmail have shown how far web applications have come, now to the point where you almost can’t distinguish them from desktop apps (save the give away title bar). All this from a browser that is at least three years old to boot.

“god loves his children", “copy that, god loves his children", “ten-four!”
I have surprised myself with the longevity of Rodeohead a bluegrass medley of Radiohead songs - half a month on and I still find myself listening to it (mp3 here, web page there).
