what’s this, a good /. post?
An actual, honest to goodness, valid, non-bad-attempt-at-humour and on-topic post on slashdot?
“…In school, the hackers studied Computer Science or Electrical Engineering and learned how to make computers work. The dropouts from these majors who just couldn’t hack it (those who wanted the jobs but didn’t have that special gift that lets you think like a computer) switched instead to “Information Systems” in the business school.
Instead of learning how to make a computer work, there they learned how to work a computer. I.e., they learned how to use the programs that we learned how to create…”
- Two cents on certifications
Something is amiss.

Follow the bear…
Glorious news - Hofmeister piss lager is being discontinued. When this was on in the Union they couldn’t even shift it when it was two pints for a quid. It also means that Pete will never again be able to bring any round to my house ever again - back of the net!

“Hey! Hey! We’re the fuckin’ Thrills!”
Myself, Wrighty, Doug, and Darren saw The Thrills at the Shepherds Bush Empire last night and they bloomin’ well rocked. ‘Your Love Is Like Las Vegas’ was a particular highlight for me. The Thrills are simply superb live.
We also worked out that there are a couple of lessons people should learn about gigs:
1. “We need to make some space for my 2 friends who’ve just gone to the bar.” No we bloody don’t - you can’t reserve a block of space at the front, you silly blond high maintenace bint.
2. If you are utterly stoned off your tits AND you are also support act for a gig AND you are also shit, don’t bother because you’re not doing anyone any favours. We’ll have none of this writhing about on the floor - you’re not Morrissey, you big girl!
3. Moshing does not equal fighting. Beware of people in the crowd wearing England t-shirts, they’re unlikey to know the mosh rules and as such will be utter twats.

Lets Get Worse
It’s a proud day - Linkmonkeys has recieved its first abusive comment from one iamhenryjohn@hotmail.com. I’m glad to see he has such excellent use of the English language.
(Oh and by the way that Desert Hearts LP is shit)

proper quoting
Looks like my days of swearing at Outlook and manual formating quoted emails is over. Outlook-QuoteFix not only properly indents quoted emails but also strip out anything past the ISO symbol for a signature ("– “) *and* places the cursor at the bottom for you to start your reply.
I’m impressed.

the network is the computer
“The authors reserve right to a method and system for cheap data storage for developing countries.
A do-it-yourself kit (long wire, speaker + microphone, shovel and a driver disk) will provide an affordable, portable and reusable way for extending storage memory on portable systems.
It is estimated that, after digging a 100 ft well, it is possible to achieve over six kilobits of extra RAM storage at 20 kHz.
We are currently looking for distributors.”
The thing is, I can’t quite make up my mind whether they’re kidding or not…

The Internet Is Shit
“Give an infinite number of monkeys typewriters and they’ll produce the works of Shakespeare. Unfortunately, I feel like I’m reading all the books where they didn’t. I can’t wait for the day when the internet makes me rejoice in its possibilities again. But right now, it’s shit.”
